Double winners collect Ride+Stride trophies

Congratulations to St Michael’s Church, Dowdeswell, which raised the most amount of any individual church during last year’s Ride+Stride event – a magnificent £1616!

This success is largely down to the hard work of Bryan Taylor – both in gathering sponsorship and cycling on the day; he raised £1526 of the total. Bryan, pictured above left, was awarded the Holmes Salver as the highest fundraiser in the over-70s age category – we are too polite to ask exactly how old he is, but perhaps Ride+Stride is the secret to keeping young…

Pictured next to Bryan is Ross Weaver who accompanied him on the ride, and also fundraised, holding the shield for Best Church.

The awards were presented by Ride+Stride County Organiser Glenn Duff at the morning service on 12 May, led by the Rev Colin Randall (pictured, right).

If you’d like to get your hands on some silverware next year, we are warming up for Ride+Stride 2017, with the official launch on Wednesday June 7. Dursley Methodist Church is hosting GHCT’s AGM at 6pm, to which all are welcome. We then move next door to St James the Great, Dursley, for our Ride+Stride Social event.

Come along and find out what’s involved and how you can help us help keep Gloucestershire’s historic churches alive and in use for generations to come.
