This page gives you the latest information we have on the Cycling Tour of Britain which is coming to our area on Ride+Stride Day.

Such is the fame of the GHCT Ride+Stride Event that The Tour of Britain is coming to visit 4 of our 8 districts in 2017. It is going to pass through some of the Cotswolds, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham on our event day and the Forest of Dean the day after.

The detailed route will be drawn on our Event Map as soon as I am allowed to release it. It comes close to many of our churches and very close to half a dozen or so of them. When I’m allowed, I will contact those churches on the route to try to ensure they are open, staffed and ideally are displaying one of our large subsidised banners!

This may affect the plans of many of our participants (rolling road closures are planned) so I will email all Local Organisers when I am allowed to release details, possibly in August 2017.

We are working with the Cotswold Tourist Board (and soon to be all the other Tourist Boards in our region) to promote our event and our event poster inviting people to contact your County Organiser will be sent to all Tourist Information Centres. Anyone who shows interest will be directed to the nearest Church with a Local Organiser. If there is no response then we will try the next nearest church. After that, we will encourage the participant to raise money directly for GHCT as the team from Ecclesiastical Insurance is doing for us this year.

I would like to encourage all churches on or near the route to get their churches open and staffed and to contact me by Sunday 28 May ideally, if they can buy a 6′ x 3′ banner for only £30, see our banners and boards page. You can see the approximate route through the links below.

If you feel showing a banner is dependent on how close you are to the route, contact the County Organiser and I will try to suggest whether I think you should go for it without revealing the route.

You are not trying to catch the cyclists! Its the people watching that need to see the banner flapping and wander in. Consider a collection plate with a sponsorship form and someone who knows how to use it. As I always say, prepare early, understand the system and contact the County Organiser if you need help, in good time please.

There is very good scope for us to have some of our meeting points near the route – perhaps you will be inspired to go faster after your break, see our Lunchtime Meeting Points page. Let me know your thoughts. The timing suggests it might be about 2:00-3:30pm when the professionals are in our region on the day. More precise timings will be coming our way. Perhaps those intending to cycle Cheltenham should go early (the event starts at 10am). Keep your eye on this page!
