Map and Routes Announced for the GHCT Ride+Stride 2026

Plan Your Adventure: Map and Routes Announced for the GHCT Ride+Stride 2026!

Get ready to explore! The Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust (GHCT) has released the Participants Map for the 2026 Ride+Stride, taking place on Saturday, 12th September.

Whether you’re an avid cyclist looking for a cross-county challenge or a family planning a relaxed weekend stroll, it is time to start charting your course. The annual Ride+Stride event is a fantastic day out that combines local history, fresh air, and community spirit—all while raising vital funds to preserve our beautiful historic buildings.

Choose Your Route, Your Way

There is no set course for Ride+Stride, which means you have complete freedom to design a route that works for you. Using the 2026 Participants Map, you can connect the dots between dozens of participating historic churches and chapels across Gloucestershire and North Bristol.

Travel your way: walk, cycle, ride on horseback, or use public transport.

Need some route inspiration?

  • The Cotswold Classic: Take in the stunning architecture of the Cotswolds, stopping at well-known landmarks like St Mary’s in Painswick, famous for its 99 clipped yew trees, or the Norman beauty of St Michael and All Angels in Bishops Cleeve.
  • The Cheltenham Circuit: Stick to the town and visit some grand Victorian architecture, including All Saints, Pittville, near the famous Pump Room.
  • The Forest & River Trails: Explore the heart of the Forest of Dean with a stop at All Saints, Coleford, or head toward the Severn to visit All Saints' in Stone.

More Than Just a Walk

Many churches will be specially open on the day, with welcoming volunteers offering everything from afternoon teas and bake sales to tower tours and organ recitals. It’s a brilliant opportunity to see inside buildings you might normally just drive past. You don't need to be a churchgoer to take part—history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and community supporters are all welcome!

Make Your Miles Count

Every mile you travel helps protect local heritage. All sponsorship money raised is split 50/50: half goes directly to a church of your choosing, and the other half goes to the GHCT to fund vital repair, maintenance, and accessibility projects across the county. Last year’s efforts raised over £37,000, and with your help, 2026 can be even bigger.
