We’re looking for a new Chair!

Are you able to help us?

The Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust is looking for a new chair to help steer us through the next stages of our development.

The Trust covers Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and North Bristol and ideally the chair should be local to this area. This is a voluntary role with expenses paid and should be no more than a few hours a week plus some meetings and events which may include evenings and weekends

Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust is a small grant-making charity which since 1980 has been supporting churches in Gloucestershire and North Bristol with grants for repairs and improvements for church buildings. We are part of a network of local county historic churches trusts across the country.

We have an asset base of nearly £2m, and currently give around £150,000 of grants away each year.

Chair of the Board of Trustees

GHCT is seeking a new Chair to lead the charity, chairing a council of around 8-10 volunteers. We believe there is potential for legacies, fundraising, and greater supporter involvement through events, including (but not exclusive to) Ride & Stride, and we would expect the new Chair to have the skills to help shape future development while ensuring the charity’s vision and aims are maintained.

We are looking for a Chair with a good understanding of the Christian faith and the church world, who has gravitas and credibility and will be able to act in an ambassadorial role for the charity.

The new Chair will ideally have experience of chairing a board, understand the charity sector, have a proven track record of strategic leadership and governance skills, effective communication and representational skills, as well as empathy and enthusiasm for GHCT’s aims and objectives.

The closing date for applications is 31st January 2020.  We would like our boards and committees broadly to represent the range of churches that we support, and we welcome applications from all members of the community.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter saying why you would like to be considered for the role to:
