An Opportunity to help Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust

Ride+Stride is a significant fund raiser for GHCT and for the churches and chapels that take part.

The 2023 event was very successful and exceeded expectations with more than £43000 raised.  Ride+Stride has changed over recent years. Formerly the aim was to encourage participants to visit as many churches as possible during the day.

More recently it has morphed into providing a platform for enjoying a day out visiting a selected number of churches and appreciating the history/heritage that they offer.  GHCT believes there is further scope for promoting Ride+Stride and is actively seeking a volunteer to take on this role.

This position would include administering the event as well as promoting it. The role of administering Ride+Stride has many interesting facets.  It gives an insight into how a charity operates, leads to interactions with a wide range of people both inside and outside the Trust and is an opportunity to gain an appreciation of church architecture, fittings and local histories. In 2023, the Trust started a project with a mapping expert to create walking and cycling routes with points of interest for walkers and riders.

There is scope to take this further to help promote Ride+Stride to a wider audience. Working with the Trust’s website designers and PR team is fundamental to promoting and operating Ride+Stride and is a key part of the administrator’s role.

Full support with administrative systems and accounting will be given by other members of the GHCT team, if required. Importantly, encouraging and helping churches and chapels to raise funds for the Trust gives applicants a significant advantage when applying for grants to carry out major repairs or conservation.

The administrator role makes a real contribution to church funding and sustaining our heritage.  The Ride+Stride administrator/promoter position is a very rewarding activity.
