Could you help the GHCT?
The Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust is seeking to recruit new members to its Council.
The Trust supports over 600 churches of all denominations in Gloucestershire, South Glos and North Bristol. We give away £150,000 each year, making grants to a huge range of repair, conservation and improvement projects.
The Council meets 2-3 times a year, and there is plenty to do in between meetings. We are seeking people with ideas and energy who can help to promote and develop the work of the Trust. Skills and experience in PR, IT and finance are particularly useful.
If you feel you could help with this work, please get in touch with Jonathan MacKechnie-Jarvis on 01452 502174 or jonathanmj@virginmedia.com
He would be very happy to talk through in more detail what the role involves and how you may be able to help with the work.
What does it entail?
Meetings structure
As a member of the Council, you would be expected to attend 2-3 meetings a year, plus the AGM. At present the Council meets during the day, but the AGM is at 6pm. The AGM is an opportunity to engage with our supporters and particularly with Ride+Stride participants.
The wider picture
We are gradually reviewing and developing our ways of working and this is likely to involve getting together between Council meetings . For example in the last year we have had to address Data Protection, Website Development and Attracting new support for Ride+Stride
There is much else that will need to be addressed to ensure we make the most of our resources and offer the best support to our churches.
How you could help
We are looking for fresh ideas and enthusiasm. The role need not be too time consuming, but on the other hand it is like to involve more than simply attending the scheduled meetings.
Experience of PR, IT and charity finance would be very helpful. But there are many other useful skills, for example the ability to take a good photograph or to put together a few cogent paragraphs, or simply to listen to a discussion and contribute some common sense!
Our casework is dominated by Church of England applicants, but we serve all Christian denominations and it would good to recruit people with knowledge of the wider Church scene.
