What our grants can mean

We spend a lot of time and effort raising money, which we then spend on grants for our churches.

But can we be sure how much difference we are making?

A few cases are written up each year on the website, and a further selection is in the annual review, but we have always wanted to do more follow-up.   We needed to find a volunteer willing to get around our churches and to see at first-hand what has been achieved.

Step forward, Harry Stones, who is an urban planning student at the University of Gloucestershire. He very kindly offered to do some research in his summer break in 2024, and a follow-up campaign seemed the ideal way of using his time. He has already visited a number of churches in Bristol and Cheltenham, including some important community-based adaptation schemes. His reports are fully illustrated and we hope they will help us to publicise our work, and to underline the need for more funding, to maintain and improve our church heritage.

By the time you read these words, his work will already have informed a talk at Christchurch, Abbeydale.

Here is an example of Harry’s reports

Here is an example of Harry’s reports, dealing with Hope Chapel, Hotwells, Bristol.  Is this the only church that contains what look for all the world like a row of beach huts?
