A Summer Church Crawl in the Badminton Area

We are excited to announce a wonderful summer day out for lovers of local heritage, history and good company. Join us on Friday, 12th June 2026, for a unique Church Crawl exploring some of the finest historic churches in the Badminton area.

This special day gives you the rare opportunity to step inside some of Gloucestershire's most remarkable Grade I listed churches, including access to spaces not usually open to the general public. With guided tours, bell-ringing, a relaxed buffet lunch, and wonderful company, it promises to be a truly memorable summer outing.

The Day's Programme

10:30 am – St Mary the Virgin, Hawkesbury

The day begins at St Mary the Virgin, Hawkesbury (GL9 1BN), with welcome refreshments and guided tours of this distinctive Grade I listed church, set in a stunning location. You will also have the special experience of hearing the bells rung – a real highlight not to be missed.

Buffet Lunch – Bodkin House Hotel

From Hawkesbury, we move to the charming Bodkin House Hotel for a relaxed buffet lunch. Set on the site of a former priory, the hotel retains a number of beautiful historic features that add a lovely atmosphere to the occasion. We will have access to a private dining room, a lovely outdoor space if the weather is kind, and ample parking. Drinks can be purchased at the bar.

Afternoon – Great Badminton Church

After lunch, we head to Great Badminton Church, another outstanding Grade I listed building. Here you will enjoy a guided tour and the chance to hear the recently restored organ. Parking and stewards will be in place on arrival to make things easy.

Optional – Little Badminton Church

For those who wish to extend the day, there will be an optional visit to Little Badminton Church, also Grade I listed, with transport provided by local volunteers.
