Exploring Gloucestershire and Bristol
Exploring Gloucestershire and Bristol
For the 40th anniversary, GHCT published a booklet ‘Simon Jenkins Favourite Churches in Gloucestershire and Bristol’. Copies are still available if you haven’t requested one already …simply click here. Simon Jenkins, an authority on church architecture, kindly allowed us to reproduce sections from his book ‘England’s Thousand Best Churches’ originally published in 1999.
We have created some walking routes to explore the Jenkins churches in addition to enjoying other aspects of Gloucestershire and Bristol heritage and countryside.
The routes are in graphic form rather than maps. With the availability of Google maps, OS apps and other digital route planners, we leave the detailed planning to you. The routes can be seen clearly on OS 1:50000 maps.
- Cirencester Circular Walk
- The Ampney Churches
- Churches and Steam Trains
- Stroudwater Navigation and Cotswold Way
- Bristol city walk
Please let us know if you have any favourite heritage walks.
